Meet Gregg Gregory, Certified Speaking Professional
A perfect storm brought Gregg to this point in his life. As a young college student, Gregg enjoyed playing records on his local college radio station. Later he took a part-time position with Metro Networks (a traffic reporting service in Washington, DC). There, he enjoyed developing his presence, voice, and high energy style, which is so apparent today. During this time Gregg obtained his real estate license and a career focus shift began.
After selling real estate for a few of years, he easily transitioned to the mortgage banking industry. At the same time, a friend needed some weekend help working with various groups; basically as a stage hand at live events across the United States. This began his experience in the event planning and production industry. Gregg quickly offered ways to improve the process and entertainment viability. His friend gladly accepted Gregg’s innovations; and Gregg began producing events for hundreds of people, which included corporate events, and dinners as well as live stage shows, and competitions. Drawing on his previous broadcasting experience, Gregg was a natural and he began emceeing these events as well. Although exciting and enjoyable, this part-time work was not lucrative enough to pay the bills, so Gregg continued making his mark in mortgage industry and only worked a few weekend events each year. At these events, Gregg developed and built new teams in each city, for each event, usually in less than 24 hours.
Never being one who likes to sit still, Gregg returned to his fun college days of broadcasting when the Washington, DC, operations director for Metro Networks called and asked for help. They were short staffed and needed someone that could work independently for a few weeks. Always willing to help, Gregg accepted the extra work. He worked the morning drive time, and delivered traffic reports across a wide variety of station formats. While it was not a permanent job, or regular work for that matter, Gregg quickly became the “vacation relief” for everyone in one of the largest radio and television markets of the country. Gregg is proudly the only person to have delivered traffic reports on every radio frequency, and television station in Washington, DC, history. Those few weeks turned into almost eight years.
This perfect storm of real estate, mortgage banking, event planning, and production as well as radio and television broadcasting, provides a clear understanding of the different aspects of business, as well as how different people work, and more importantly, how to ensure different personalities work together successfully to accomplish the organization’s mission, goals and objectives.
- In producing events, Gregg had to move everyone through the four stages of team development in record time.
- In broadcasting, he had to quickly adapt to differing station formats within a large media market.
- In mortgage banking, he understood the role of sales person in the field, with insight to the operational challenges of processing and underwriting a loan, not to mention the administrative challenges of closing the loan timely.
